Richard Rice Memorial Bursary (CPF NB RRMB)

Richard Rice was a pioneer for the French Immersion programs in New Brunswick. Throughout his career, he was an educator in former District 6 and the New Brunswick Department of Education. His career was dedicated to the advancement of French as a Second Language through teaching and learning. The impact of Richard Rice can still be seen in many ways, such as the student exchanges (inter-province and with Quebec) and through the teaching training at the Magdalene Islands. His dedication continued long after his retirement, and also included a long-serving term as the President of the Canadian Parents for French Board of Directors. Today’s FSL students have pioneers such as Richard to thank for their opportunity to learn French as a second language.

This $1000 bursary is being offered to a French Second-Language student graduate of a New Brunswick high school who will be pursuing their post-secondary studies (university or college) in French. A minimum of one bursary will be awarded with the possibility of additional bursaries depending on available funds. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to provide a testimony discussing their experience in French Immersion prior to receiving their bursary.
